Tourism ad “disaster” ?

So I mentioned yesterday that I had found something to write about and decided to delay it to today in order to post that gem of a video of Celine Dion dancing like she had just stepped out of the disco era. Which to my own credit and enjoyment, still makes me laugh and I’ve seen the video about a dozen times.

So here is the backstory. I find I occasionally have some free time on the weekend, in which I like to curl up on the couch and catch up on the TV I missed during the week… thank god for PVR’s, I would never get to catch my shows otherwise.  Now normally I fast forward through the commercials, since I am afforded that luxury but I think I’d gotten up for water or a snack and managed to catch this little number.

Now here is the reason I am posting about this today. I completely realize that tourism is a major revenue driver for communities, and I know millions get spent each year on tourism ads. There is just something that doesn’t sit right with me on this one.

It was brought to my attention that the Gulf Coast (thanks to BP) created a similar campaign after the oil spill a few years ago, but when does it go too far to promote a region based on its ability to survive a major tragedy. Now I could completely be reading too much into this, and this could be a genius marking campaign, but still for me something doesn’t sit right.

That being said, the song is kind of catchy.
